Compare reading the Bible to observing nature. We take a casual stroll and watch the sunrise or listen to the birds. Occasionally we pause to inspect a flower and admire its intricate beauty. When we feel energetic, we hike to the top of a hill and enjoy the panoramic view below.
Similarly, when we read the Bible, we often read at a comfortable pace and observe truth. At times we pause to meditate on a profound thought, or dig into a verse where we sense deeper meaning. But do we ever exert ourselves to get the big-picture view of the Bible?
Reading the Bible rapidly, cover to cover like we read other books, allows us to see the big picture of what God has been doing over the past 6,000 years. Pushing ourselves to read the Bible through in 30 days gives us a panoramic view of God’s story. This amount of reading can take 1-2 hours each day, but the perspective we gain is worth the time investment!
Will you take the challenge?
Suggestions
- Use a Bible version that is easy to read, such as NKJV, ESV, NIV, or NLT.
- Listen to an audio Bible as an alternative to reading. Two apps with excellent options are the YouVersion Bible app, and the Bible.is app.
- Don’t get stuck on a verse or question. Note them in a journal for further study later, and then keep reading.
- Complete this challenge with a group of friends. This helps you to stay on track, and makes for great discussions.
